There was no final night upset in season five of Racing League as London & The South celebrated an ultimately convincing victory at Southwell, with Richard Kingscote securing the top jockey award.
London & The South started the meeting with a 125-point cushion and, while closest challenger The East performed admirably with three winners, Matt Chapman’s team sealed the title with a race to spare.
London & The South racked up an overall points total of 840 across the six weeks, with The East second on 765 and a much-improved Scotland third on 646. The defending champions Wales & The West could only manage fifth.
This is a first Racing League title for London & The South following three successive top three finishes, including a galling final night defeat by Wales & The West in 2022.
London & The South sent out eight winners and 20 placed runners during season five, with its 202-point haul on home soil at Windsor the standout performance by any side.

Chapman said: “As team captain of London & The South, I am absolutely over the moon that our trainers, jockeys, owners and horses have managed to be the best of the best. The trainers were my commandos; Balding, Hills, the Kublers, the Crisfords, Johnson Houghton, Scott, Morrison, Tinkler, Macey, Ferguson, Hannon, Channon, Dwyer and Faulkner, while the jockeys were my warriors; Kingscote, Probert, Bishop, Dace, Doughty, Currie, Leavy and Jary.
“I want to highlight some particular performances from my horses because they are the stars of the show. Fantasy World, Jimmy Speaking and Andaleep at Great Yarmouth – three terrific performances. Fantasy World, with give in the ground, is a really progressive handicapper, while Jimmy Speaking was so tough. Andaleep, almost a pensioner, brought it to the table at the age of nine.
“Shamrock Bay and Great Acclaim were glorious at Chepstow. Shamrock Bay stuck his neck out, while Great Acclaim backed up from his win at Glorious Goodwood the week before. Kodi Fire and Siempre Arturo could not have tried harder at Windsor.
“And then the magnificent Bragbor at Newcastle, a horse plotted up for weeks by George Scott, landing a joker and effectively sealing the title that night. It seems ironic but beautiful that Charlie Fellowes [manager of The East] should suffer this devastating defeat at the hands of one of his great friends in George Scott.
“As a captain, I have worked tirelessly, while my team has worked tirelessly for me. We have been a real team. This is not about one person. To a man and woman, we have represented one of the greatest cities in the world as few others could have done. Long live Racing League!”
Richard Kingscote receives a cheque for £20,000 as he prepares for the next chapter of his career in Hong Kong. London & The South’s number one rider bagged 299 points in all, 51 more than runner-up Daniel Muscutt for The East. Yorkshire’s Joanna Mason was third.
